Lockdown 6.0 continues with tighter restrictions…

So we’ve been in lockdown 6.0 for a month now, it was meant to be for 7 days, but it got extended another week until the 19th Aug, then there were even tighter restrictions until 2 Sep. As cases kept climbing, I almost cried as it was Dejavu from last year, but this time around the delta strain seems more contagious amongst children. As from the 24th Aug, it was back to stage 4 restrictions, and we needed a permit for authorised/permitted workers for their child to attend childcare. There was also a restriction of 5km radius, and tighter restrictions of mask wearing (you can’t take it off outside to drink). We’ve had our kids home for about 2 weeks now, and they are seriously getting bored with a lot of vent up energy while we try to work during the week.

It was announced on 1st Sep that the lockdown is extended/ongoing with some easing of restrictions (children are now allowed to play in the playgrounds – but only accompanied by one parent and with a QR code entry), and it’s extended to 10km radius of travel for essentials:

• Shopping for food or other essential items
• Medical care or caregiving
• Essential work and education, if you cannot work or study from home
• Exercise, (extended to three hours a day), with up to one other person
• To get vaccinated (or get tested) at your nearest location

The Pfizer vaccination was made available to under 39 year olds from end of August, I made my first booking mid Sep (as we’re still in lockdown). The easing of restrictions depend on 70% vaccination rate, which is estimated around 23 Sep, but there may be restrictions still in place until later in the year as the government is waiting on people to be fully vaccinated. Today’s report is 183 new cases in Vic and 1485 cases in NSW.

Although I do feel blessed and lucky that we are home safe from the virus and still able to work from home safely, with our kids, we’re still on ‘survival’ mode taking it day by day as juggling work, childcare, housework/domestic chores and worry/stress about the pandemic is slowly taking its toll. To stay sane, there’s more online shopping – mainly toys and activities for the kids to keep them occupied and the much loved new nespresso coffee machine to keep us going, trying to fit in excercise, gardening to get some fresh air – planted some seeds on the 1st day of spring, and trying to look after our mental health and wellbeing by just not expecting too much. We also celebrated Father’s Day today in lockdown – we had pancakes/waffles for brunch and a nice steak lockdown dinner in.
